micromax-canvas-4Micromax – one of the fastest growing mobile phone manufacturers has been continuously improving setting up new mile stones with their latest Canvas series. Now they have captured around 24% of Indian smartphone market (according to CMR report for the month of April 2013) and became biggest domestic smart phone Manufacturer Company. The brand’s product portfolio embraces more than 60 models today and the latest Canvas 4 is the most awaited mobile phone of the year 2013. Till now, Micromax has managed to grab a big chunk of market-share with its aggressive pricing. However, this time around, the company has decided to enter the mid-range smartphone space with the Canvas 4. Let’s have a look at main feature and specifications of latest Micromax Canvas 4:

Design: I must say, this time Micromax worked a lot on design of Canvas 4. It looks better than all other smartphones of Micromax service we have been seen so far. I guess its first cellphone launched by Micromax that has metal frame surrounds the entire body of phone. It also works like antenna that helps in cellular connectivity as well. I will give 3 and half out of 5 to its design.

Display: What else you can expect if your cell phone has large 5 inch touchscreen and 1280*720 pixel resolution with IPS LCD multi-touch panel and 16:9 aspect ratios as Canvas 4? Thanks to the Corning Gorilla Glass, the display is scratch resistant. The screen is bright, which somewhat helps with the sunlight legibility.

Performance: 1.2 GHz quad core processor, 1GB RAM and mediatek 6589 chipset describes everything itself. You will never face any issue related to slowing down and you can enjoy heavy games like NFS, Temple Run 2 , Angry Birds etc. without any headache.

Operating System: Micromax Canvas 4 comes with Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean operating system which is latest android based operating system for cellphone launched by Google. However unlike most other phones from Micromax, this one is heavily customized. Its video player allows you to preview a video while you play another one; it allows you to play video in one part of the display while you use other part for something else; it even pauses the video when you look away, just like Samsung Galaxy 4. The music player has customized user interface as well.

Camera: Canvas 4 comes with 13 megapixel camera with LED flash and auto focus that offers decent quality of picture especially in daylight but sometimes its bit disappointing if you would like to capture a photo in night mode or low light. You can record true HD videos in MP4 format through Canvas 4 and surprisingly video quality is also good.

Verdict: Micromax Canvas 4, for Rs 17,999, is a good phone – possibly the best from the company. While it doesn’t offer anything new, only time will tell if customers will spend so much on a phone from an Indian brand. I would buy it, but only if it were available for Rs 15,000.
